Dr. Dean Davey finds great joy in journeying alongside others to assist them in finding life at its fullest. He lives by two convictions: 1) everyone needs to be loved; and 2) suffering is an opportunity for transformation. These convictions grew as Dean served as a Pastor, giving him the privilege of walking alongside others through life’s varied stages. It was while serving as a Pastor that Dean met Paul & Lilian when they joined his church. While Dean was Paul’s pastor, Paul became Dean’s mentor, enabling them to share weekly meetings for years discussing existential positive psychology. During this time, Dean also held numerous leadership and board positions in organizations focused on personal and humanitarian development. Following two decades of pastoral and non-profit work, he went into the marketplace where he led a successful business for 12 years while he completed his PhD.
Dean has worked in academics since 2015, serving as VP at Pacific Life Bible College, Provost at Rhodes Wellness College, and now slowing down to assistant professor in the Master of Leadership program at Trinity Western University. His PhD research focused on suffering and failure as an educational transformative process and seeks to help others discover this in their own journey. Agreeing with TS Eliot that “the hint (is) half guessed, the gift half understood,” he is humbled by the paradoxical reality of life. Even still, his greatest delights are his wife and children, and occasionally he enjoys a round of golf (but usually not).
