I am a PhD student in Educational Leadership/School Improvement. I am beginning dissertation research on disability, with the purpose of forming a new, positive model of disability to counteract deficit/tragedy models. My area of specialization is children with intellectual, developmental, and emotional/behavioral disabilities. I am interested in the "emotional epistemology" (Beatty, 2002) and attitudes of general and special education teachers, administrators and students toward disability - specifically the benefits of inclusion.

I am about to start my essays and will shortly be working on my Ph.D. dissertation. I want to incorporate in my dissertation work the idea of the search for meaning in life and in personal relationships. I am presently working on some advanced research classes and am incorporating the idea of meaning in my research and writing.

My therapeutic orientation is based on intra- and interpersonal relationships and how they reflect our senses of self and spirituality. I use cognitive, behavioral, gestalt and humanistic approaches; relaxation, stress management and healing touch. Spirituality is the balance in everyday choices about environment, relationships, and manner of living. I have been legally blind since birth and live my life as fully as possible given my gifts as well as disabilities.
